Toby’s Secret
|
| A delightful story of a
young boy who is suddenly plucked from a secure, if somewhat deprived
existence. It moves along at a good pace as it skilfully captures his
adventures. Will appeal to all 8-12 year olds. |

I think that the extracts to your stories
were very good and the words that you used were excellent. I especially
enjoyed the extract from 'Toby's secret'. It made me want to read the
rest of the story to find out what the secret was. It was a unusual
extract about a child who has done things wrong and knows that he
shouldn't have. I felt it could have been me. |

Daniel said the extracts were good but could
not articulate why - the closest he got was interesting!
I think that Luke liked the dark side to 'Toby's secret'. |

Really interesting. I think a lot of young
readers will be able to relate to this and will find it helpful. These
are very vividly evoked feelings which would be difficult for young
people to share - and actually, difficult for all of us. Wouldn't it
make a smashing starting point for discussion? Look forward to reading
more... |

| A very well constructed
tale which provides an informative insight into modern day country life.
One easily empathises with the characters. Young readers will love it. |

A wonderfully, captivating
beginning. Whether or not you have experienced the wilds of Northumbria, you
feel projected into the middle of a beautiful landscape. Excellent
characterisation. At once we care about the delightful Josie, the
relationship between Dan and his Stepda and what the future holds for Ozzy.
Everyone will enjoy this fascinating tale, especially children in year 7 / 8
fortunate enough to find a copy to read.

I always have difficulty reading
dialect - can't hear it in my head.
This would be wonderful on
radio...or on a story tape. And it should speak volumes to the kids where
you are working now.

Barney The Barn
Owl
|
| Children seem to be
becoming increasingly further removed from Nature. The author's
beautiful and sensitive story, for young children, about a barn owl
empathetically tells the tale of Barney from hatching, through his
fledgling days to adulthood. This
is an enjoyable and magical way for children to learn about their
natural heritage and, in particular, British wildlife. I hope that she
will write many more stories in this vein. |

The Clockwork
Revolution
|
| The author uses her many
years of working in schools and her understanding of the interaction
between children and the social behaviour of adolescents in this
powerful portrayal of bullying. At
the beginning of the story she has captured the very essence of the
mentality of the bully, their twisted minds and threatening behaviour.
This can only be borne from first hand experience which has been
effectively translated into a skilfully penned narrative.
The opening lines take you firmly in
their grip and compel you to read on. |

| I absolutely love this!
It's great fun, challenges expectations and I just want to read
on...very lively and a smashing main character! A sure fire hit amongst
children...so where can I read the rest of it? |
